A TAKEAWAY worker delivered a meal to a customer who failed to collect it — and found him stabbed to death.
Saleem Butt, 61, had ordered a curry from the Karachi Grill 100 yards from his home.
The popular figure, known as “Uncle Butt” to children in Batley, West Yorks, was found tied to a chair.
He had been beaten and stabbed.
Saleem’s cousin Itty Ul-Haq said: “He was a lovely man who would not hurt a fly.
“Due to the circumstances of Covid-19 it's not going to be a proper funeral how we usually do it.
“Normally we would have expected more than 100 people at the funeral – we are a big family.”
Shopkeeper Ali Karolia, 50, said: “He had lived around here all his life and he was very well known.”
Police are appealing to build up a picture of who he met with in the days leading up to his death.
A man aged 64 was yesterday arrested on suspicion of murdering Saleem.
