UK thunderstorm warning: Met Office alert for ‘sudden flooding’ and ‘intense’ lightning

The yellow weather warning applies for the east, southwest, and southeast of England, as well as Wales and London. It is expected thunderstorms will hit these areas between 12-6pm. It is also expected that 15-20mm of rain will also fall during this time. 

The Met Office said: “A band of heavy showers and thunderstorms will move quickly eastwards today giving a period of intense rain and perhaps 15-20 mm of rain in a few places in an hour or less.

“These may be accompanied by lightning, hail and strong winds with a low risk that some places could see gusts of 50 mph.”

The Met Office has also warned there could sudden flooding on roads. 

There may also be train and bus cancellations and power cuts.
