An alleged drunk driver accused of fatally hitting a bride has complained her "whole life is going to be over" in phone calls to friends and family.

Jamie Lee Komoroski was taken into custody at the Charleston County jail in South Carolina, US, after she reportedly crashed into and killed Samantha Hutchinson on her wedding night while under the influence of alcohol.

In jailhouse clips obtained by the Post and Courier, Komoroski, 25, could be heard questioning why "this happened to me" and saying she felt like a terrible person in phone calls to her parents and friends.

Between sobs, the New Jersey native reportedly said to her father: "I can’t believe this is my life and my whole life is going to be over."

"Oh my God. I just can’t believe this happened to me. Why me?" she added.

Komoroski is facing three charges of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury or death and a count of reckless homicide after she allegedly drove her car into a golf buggy Hutchinson, 34, was riding in after her wedding reception at Folley Beach, South Carolina.

She was accused of drunkenly smashing her rented Toyota Camry into the slow-moving vehicle, that was also carrying Samantha's new husband, Aric Hutchinson, and two other passengers, on April 28.

Komoroski – who smelled of alcohol but refused to perform a field sobriety test – is understood to have been driving at about 40 mph over the 25-mph speed limit at the time.

Arrest reports cited by ABC showed Komoroski was reportedly three times over the legal limit to drive.

Aric Hutchinson, who was seriously injured in the crash, has filed a civil lawsuit against her and the bars that have been accused of overserving her.

In a recent interview discussing the death of his wife, the grief-stricken groom, 36, said: "The last thing I remember Samantha saying was she wanted the night to never end."

Loved ones speaking to Komoroski since she was taken into prison have been supportive of the accused drunk driver.

In a phone call, her dad reportedly said: "You don’t need to be sorry, Jamie, this is what happened and we’re going to take care of it.

"We don’t care about what happened. We don’t care. We care only about you."

In another phone call to her boyfriend and friends on May 2, Komoroski said she felt remorseful and was worried people would think she was a bad person before reportedly giving her boyfriend permission to break up with her.

During other conversations she has also been optimistic, stating she believes she won't be given a prison sentence as the crash was an accident and predicting she would be released on bond before her trial.

"There's been people that have, like, killed people on purpose before and, like, they’ve gotten out on a bond," she reportedly told her friends.

But in a separate conversation, her father reportedly told Komoroski he believed she would get less than 15 years in prison, but warned: "You're going to have to do time."

Komoroski, who has so far remained in jail ahead of her trial, also called the crash a "freak accident obviously".

Her lawyers filed a motion on Friday (May 19) to have her released on $100,000 (£80,346) bond, on the condition she would complete an inpatient rehabilitation program before going to live with her mother ahead of the trial, claiming she is not a danger to the community, WCIV reported.
