Woman killed and child hurt after car smashes into embankment in crash as cops plead for witnesses

A WOMAN in her 20s has been killed and a child was badly injured in a horror car smash.

Cops and paramedics dashed to Yelsted, near Sittingbourne in Kent, after the single-car crash yesterday afternoon.

The collision happened in Yelsted Road, a rural carriageway with space for just one vehicle to pass by at a time.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the woman couldn't be saved.

Officers at Kent Police have now called for anyone with information to come forward.

They said: "The incident happened in Yelsted Road, near the junction with Yelsted Lane, at around 1.20pm on Friday.

"A woman in her 20s died after the silver Kia Sorrento she was driving in the direction of Sittingbourne left the road and collided with the embankment.

"A child passenger was also injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.

"Officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and would now like to hear from witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident."
